12/6/98 My ex gets married here in Las Vegas where all of his kids live, doesn't let his kids age 10, 14, 23, know he's in Vegas and  doesn't invite them to the wedding.

Then he emails this announcement, after he's back in CA, to our  kids and to our daughter-in-law's parents (we can't figure out why):

Sent: Saturday, December 05, 1998 8:02 PM

Subject: we did it

Today at 1:15pm Phillip B***** and Rosemary were  joined in Holy Matrimony at The Littlest Church in the West,  Las Vegas, Nevada.

love, Phillip & Rosemary

We thought he surely had invited our eldest daughter and her husband.  She'd disowned me 8/31/98 and wasn't communicating much with her brother (he's Mormon, she's fundamentalist Catholic, his religion and my lack of prejudice scares her).  My ex shared our eldest daughter's prejudice.  To our surprise, we learn he didn't invite them either.

Our eldest daughter and her husband felt shocked about her dad's actions.  She and her husband thought they'd at least be included.

The kids are all bewildered and hurt they weren't invited to be at their father's wedding.

12/99 Still working for the US manufacturer, my ex had received a big promotion and lived in England for a year. He told me he was overhauling their  England subsidiary, then would be changing countries every couple of years to repeat the overhaul of each subsidiary.  I was thrilled the girls spent a summer in England, and would have the chance to see other countries when he moved again.

He told me he was very busy redoing their computers.  Now I thought that was odd that he was telling me about his work. He's not a programmer. I don't ask about what he does at work. I've gotten the impression before that he was trying to compete with my MCSE/MCT husband. A few weeks later my ex was suddenly fired and the company that he described as thinking he was their golden boy, doesn't have a job for him.

He moved to Los Osos, CA February 2000. It’s an area where he’s unlikely to find employment. I didn’t understand why he moved there, renting a house before getting a job. I didn’t understand why he didn’t live near his kids (he has lived in Riverside and Laguna Hills in the past and we now lived in Redondo Beach) or near his new wife’s kids in TX. I’ve since learned his first objective was to live near his siblings and get them back together. He told the girls he'd start alternate weekend visitation and fly them back and forth. Altho he'd lived in the area before and probably was aware, he "discovered" later that flights were too expensive.  He'd drive the 5 hour one way trip to drive them to his house. They had I think 1 weekend visit before all visits stopped til summer.

My ex in effect snubbed his nose to me about his getting work. He emailed me, "Yes, (giggle) I am looking for work. If  I don't manage to find a job by then, monies will come out of unemployment benefits, which are good for 6 months, or so I have been advised."

8/5/2000 My ex's brother's wife kicked her husband out of the house, so David's living with my ex.  Another divorced brother, Stephen, sold his home and moved to an apt closer to my ex. David is  trying to go on disability.  My ex is still "unemployed". Unemployment $ that began 3/1/2000 ends this month.  They started an internet company.  Gee, I guess that's why my ex chose to live near his brothers and wasn't interested in a job.

While at their dad's dinner table, our daughters' Uncle David began talking about our oldest daughter's molester, Kenny, who lives nearby.  My ex spoke up, "The girls aren't allowed anywhere near him and they won't be going to any family get-togethers that Kenny's at," and his wife said, "Let's change the subject." Our 12 and 15yo daughters called me with relief - their dad had disparaged my boundaries about that relative for years.  He was still socializing with his brother, but was finally honoring my boundary and the girls' feelings.
